TOLOSA WINERY 1772 CHARDONNAY 2020

With a late bud break and a dry, mild summer, the 2020 growing season looked a lot like 2019, and on par as a cooler vintage. Fortunately, flavors developed faster than 2019, which allowed us to start picking in late August and through September to capitalize on the excellent sugar and acid balance in the grapes. VINEYARD SOURCES The diverse terroir of the Poletti section of Edna Ranch provided all the grapes for this wine. In 2020, we selected three different blocks planted to three different clones, among them the Tequsquet clone, one of the oldest and most famous of the Central Coast which helps provide exceptional depth to this wine. WINEMAKING Grapes for this wine were whole cluster pressed which reduces extraction of phenolic (bitter) compounds and then fermented in French Oak at cooler temperatures. Visual Pale goldish straw Nose Aromas of yellow apple, apricot and cantaloupe mixed with notes of hazelnut, vanilla, white flowers and honey. Palate Medium bodied with mineral notes, bright, crunchy stone fruits and hints of vanilla custard framed by brisk acidity.
